Just wanted to check - inclusion of other versions/extensions of a canon is opt-in rather than opt-out? The requester can say feel free to include, and the writer can choose to or not, but the writer can't default to (eg) movie details without permission?

Hi, I received no optional details at all on the sign up I got, nor did the requester post a 'Dear Author' letter. I'm planning to use the characters requested and the rating suggested to create a fic, is this acceptable or should I contact the requester to find out if they have any fic pet peeves or dislikes? My main concern is accidentally triggering my recipient.

That's perfectly acceptable, however if you do have questions for your recipent, in order to keep this anonymous until the collection opens, you shouldn't contact your recipient directly. Either pm or email the mod account with the name of your recipient and I will contact them for you.
